About
My name is Amy Stewart, and I am a graphic designer based in Richardson, Texas. After graduating from Rice University in 1989 with a degree in Spanish, plus a lot of fine art classes, I decided to make my living as what we called back then a “commercial artist.” After working for a while as a stripper, a pasteup artist, a catalog director, a balloon designer and product manager , and as the executive director of the Usability Professionals’ Association, I eventually learned enough skills and accumulated enough clients to start my own full-time design business, Stewart Design with my partner David McClure, in 1997. David is a chartered accountant from N. Ireland, and manages the business side of things.
We do catalogs, product design, logos and corporate identities, websites, cartoons, and illustrations. Nearly all our business comes by word of mouth.
In addition to designing things and doing random doodles in my spare time, I really love learning about how technology can help make design easier. I love working with design departments and customers to make their projects run more efficiently. I’m really into “efficient workflow.” Yeah, it sounds nerdy, but it’s extremely satisfying to be the architect of a structure that works well and saves everybody time and money.
